U.S. AMBASSADOR KENNEY IN JOLO FOR LANDMARK PROJECTS (Oct.14, 2008)

United States Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney arrives Jolo Airport for the groundbreaking ceremonies of Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) various infrastructure projects such as the rehabilitation of the Jolo Airport runway, Jolo Fire Station and the Jolo Water Supply System (NAWASA).

Governor Sakur Tan, Vice Governor Lady Ann Sahidulla, and Mayor Hussin Amin of the Municipality Jolo welcomed Ambassador Kenney and her entourage at the Jolo Airport. Other Municipal Mayors, Board Members of 1st and 2nd District and provincial heads are also there to welcome them.

Together with the Ambassador are Honourable Jon Lindborg of USAID Mission Director, honourable Margot Ellis - USAID Assistant Administrator and Atty. Nabil Tan of the OPPAP.

Ambassador Kenney in her statement that Jolo airport had to be developed to welcome socio-economic developments in the province of Sulu.  Investors will draw closer to visit and endow business particularly in the town of Jolo. 

Also part of the aim is to attract investors outside Sulu for the purpose of enhancing Entrepreneurial partnership from province to province and from region to region within the country.  This way, people from Sulu need not go outside the country in search of source of living.

Furthermore, she said these projects will not be made possible without the support and participation of various sectors and donor institutions to facilitate development in Mindanao particularly in Sulu. She appreciates the warm welcome given to her by the local officials of Sulu in general.

All of the projects mentioned are identified under the Regional Impact Project (RIP).
