L.A. JOINS IPHO-SULU CELEBRATE ITS 92nd ANNIVERSARY (Nov.19 ,2008)

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) Sulu Provincial Hospital headed by Dra. Fahra T. Omar celebrate their 92nd Anniversary at the Sulu Provincial Hospital with the theme “ Save a Life, Share your blood “. Highlighted in the said event the IPHO Sulu conducted blood donation, free haircut and the unveiling of the Reproductive Health Campaign.

The occassion was attended by honorable Sulu Vice Governor Nur-Ana I. Sahidulla Al-Haj, MGen. Juancho M. Sabban - Commanding Officer of Joint Task Force Comet, Col. Eugenio Clemen - Commanding Officer 3rd Marine Brigade, Lt.Col. Ferdinand Fraginal - Commanding Officer of MBLT5, Col. Richard Miller - U.S. Visiting Forces, USec. Atty. Nabil Tan of OPPAP, and Councilor John Schuck - Municipality of Jolo.

The 2nd and 3rd Marine Battalion Landing Teams together with U.S. Visiting Forces volunteered in donating blood in response to IPHO’s theme. MGen. Sabban, Lt. Col. Fraginal , Col. Clemen, and Col. Richard Miller voluntarily started the blood letting ceremony.

Honorable Vice Governor Sahidulla was the keynote speaker of the event.  She talks about the Importance of Reproductive Health in the community and in the society. In her speech, “Training Module is in the context of Islam”, cited the Islamic point of view and verses from the Holy Qur’an, from Sunnah and Shariah Law demonstrates support for Reproductive Health.

Consequently she emphasizes that Sulu is facing annual population increase and higher mortality rate, furthermore she said, reproductive health rights decreases maternal and infant morbidity and mortality rates in which she address the issue relating to population growth and development prevention and control of communicable diseases like HIV-AIDS and to strengthen information, education, and communication campaign in Sulu.

She also stressed that, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Sulu has enacted the Provincial Ordinance No. 01-2008, otherwise known as the Sulu Reproductive Health Code of 2008. These ordinance enacted in line with the Philippine Laws which compelled that local government unit shall promote advance sovereign commitments to human rights, health, women empowerment, youth well being and responsible parenthood.

Previously, Vice Governor Sahidulla organized the women’s sector, the Lupah Sug Babai Pilihan, in consonance to the call of awareness through Reproductive Health.

The ever supportive Vice Governor was asked to render song number by the IPHO Sulu Staff doctors and nurses, and fervently serenades the audience while the military dignitaries donating blood.
