SAN MIGUEL CORP SUPPORTS SULU FARMERS COOPERATIVE (June 11, 2009)
Vice Governor Hja. Nur-Ana I. Sahidulla welcomes Mr. Roderick Dagamo, representative of San Miguel Corporation (SMC), Davao City. SMC is assisting farmer cooperatives for years now in Sulu in terms of technical transfer of knowledge in farming vegetables and cassava plants.
Mr. Dagamo was overwhelmed by the gesture and sense of humor of the Tausugs. According to him, Tausugs are truly industrious in which SMC is willing to establish business here in Sulu and is planning to invest more.
Vice Governor Sahidulla and Task Force Comet head Major General Juancho M. Sabban then invited Mr. Dagamo visit Barangays Matatal and Duhol Kabbon, Municipality of Maimbung, Sulu, where Farmers Cooperative was launched early last year by the Vice Governor and Task Force Comet.
Barangay Matatal Duhol Kabbon Farmers Cooperative is hailed as an outstanding cooperative in fulfilling its duty. Different variety of vegetables such as squash, okra, string beans, petchay, corn and cucumber are freshly planted in the area. Aside from vegetables they produce, huge volume of cassava. The cooperative was trained through correct methods of farming to generate higher yield of harvest.
Honorable Sahidulla and the Task Force Comet have already established and supported a number of Livelihood Cooperatives gear up revenues and self reliance of farmers in Sulu.
Also with the group are Colonel Caculitan and Major Leon Saturnino of the 4th Marine Battallion Landing Team. Barangay Captains Melyn Hajal (Matatal), Mr. Alijim Bairulla (Duhol Kabbon), where also there to assist and extend their gratitude to Vice Governor Sahidulla and General Sabban for the investment they brought to their barangay.
