LIVESTOCKS AND SEEDLINGS FOR SULU FARMERS (Dec. 17, 2008)

Another cow and goat breeding, cassava and coffee farming was initiated by honorable Vice Governor Hja. Nur-Ana I. Sahidulla at the Municipality of Indanan, Sulu.

Caretakers of the livestock farm in Barangay Manggis, Indanan, gladly received the 15 cows and 40 goats from the vice governor as assisted by the Joint Task force Comet head MGen. Juancho M. Sabban, Col. Eugenio Clemen of the 3rd Marine Brigade- Commanding Chief and Col. Caculitan. 

Livestock and goat breeding is one of Vice Governor Sahidulla’s major programs to uplift the dire economic condition in Sulu.  The province is considered one of the poorest among the poor in the country. 

Vice Governor Sahidulla’s effort in her noble cooperative undertakings will improve and enhance food production in the Province of Sulu which will benefit  small scale farmers and alike.

In the meeting with the farmers and cooperative members, she said “It is well known that poverty reduction is not accomplished by a single program alone. For the project to succeed, the participation and involvement of the community in general are encouraged”.

After her visit to Brgy. Manggis , Vice Governor Sahidulla went straight to the Katian Kassava and Kahawa Sug Farmers Cooperative at Katian, Indanan, Sulu, wherin also the cassava and coffee plantation is.

The vice governor is overwhelmed upon seeing the farm drastic improvement which will really benefit the farmers' livelihood when harvesting comes.

To protect the community, the military assured the farmers that they will secure the area so that their life, farms and livestock will be safe from illegal elements and proachers.

The farm is a joint project of Sulu Provincial Government, Indanan Local Government, Department of Agriculture-Sulu and the Marine Battalion Landing Team-4.

The livestock breeding in Barangay Manggis, Indanan and cassava/coffee farming is a joint project of the Sulu Provincial Government through the effort of the honorable Vice Governor Lady Ann Sahidulla and the Joint Task force Comet headed by MGen. Juancho M. Sabban and Col. Eugenio Clemen of the 3rd Marine Brigade-Commanding Chief.

The cassava and coffee seedlings for Katian Kassava and Kahawa Sug Farmers Cooperative seedlings is donated by the Joint Task Force Comet.
