15 CARABAOS FOR SULU COOPERATIVES (Dec. 10, 2008)
The Sulu Provincial Government is embarking on livelihood programs aimed to improve the economic conditions of the Tausugs.
OIC Governor Nur-Ana I. Sahidulla the Provincial Vice Governor of Sulu handed over 15 carabaos to different cooperatives organized by Sulu Provincial Government for the entire province to consolidate their efforts in undertaking economic activities.
These cooperatives are being trained by the Department of Agriculture to become more productive in their respective districts, in such a manner; they were trained on their roles and responsibilities in administering their organization to ensure positive outcome in their livelihood project.
“We are addressing the peace and order problem by eliminating poverty and giving opportunities to our constituents, that’s why the Sulu Provincial Government is aggressive in organizing cooperatives in the different municipalities of Sulu,” Vice Governor Sahidulla said.
Sulu is very rich in natural resources and fertile soil and basically an agriculture-based province. Aside from coffee and corn, the province of Sulu is suitable for other high value crops like coconuts, mango and abaca and tropical fruits such as durian, mangoosteen and lanzones.
This activity is a joint project of the Department of Agriculture and the Sulu Provincial Government designed to further strengthen the livelihood cooperatives and bountiful harvest by the farmers thereby increasing their income and better living conditions.
